If you plan on traveling to Ireland, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific Rim (Australia, N. Zealand, etc.) then you will need a Sim Unlocked Cell Phone that can operate on the GSM 900, GSM 1800, and GSM 900/1800 dual-band networks. This will allow you insert and use the local SIM Cards for each country into the Cell Phone, allowing you to take advantage of the low local call rates.

While most of the GSM network providers will sell you a phone with a SIM card, their phone will be locked to their network and SIM cards from other GSM networks will not work in the phone.
